Bella Terra Festival 2012 Recap

Bella Terra Festival kicked off this past weekend on Garder’s Farm in Stephentown, NY. All sorts of people showed up to support a solid lineup with names such as Suckerpunch, Dead Prez, Dirtyphonics, Trolley Snatcha, Marvin Seals & JGB and more.

The weekend started off right on Thursday with attendees steadily pouring in throughout the night. Zach Deputy jammed out to set the mood while Jimkata, Designer Drugs, and DJ Theory kept the energy going. Finally the night came to a close as campers mellowed out by the bonfire to the trombone of Bryan Brundige from The Chronicles.

Friday seemed promising as Alpha Data and Egyptrixx tore up the Mystika Stage while Marvin Seals & JGB followed on the Main Stage. Eventually a thunderstorm sent most of the crowd ducking for cover while some attendees opted for mud wrestling and a makeshift air mattress slip-n-slide. When the storm let up, campers crawled out of their tents to continue the night with La Coka Nostra, Terravita, Cosmic Dust Bunnies, Masta Ace and a special beatbox performance. As the night grew and the temperature dropped, a big crowd gathered around the bonfire to cozy up and share some warmth to the harmony of drums.

Saturday morning started off with a certain buzz as a larger crowd gathered to enjoy a solid lineup. Bands such as Dr. Jah and the Love Prophets comforted the daytime crowd as the excitement grew for Dead Prez and the maniacal Dirtyphonics (Live) set. With Dirtyphonics setting the tone, the crowd poured into the Massive Stage tent to be entranced by some of Ott’s psychedelic dub. Suckerpunch finally took to the main stage to produce the biggest crowd of the festival laying down some jams throughout a much-appreciated extended set.

Finally, Sunday closed out the weekend with a smaller crowd enjoying the sounds of Max Creek, Rev Tor and finally getting down to the deep wobbles of Trolley Snatcha.

Overall Bella Terra Festival brought an amazing, respectful, and beautiful crowd together. Set on Gardner’s Farm with a small lake and freshwater creek, the good vibes spread throughout the community to create an oddly comfortable sense of family. I could not ask for a better way to close out the summer or a better group of people to do it with. Thank you Bella Terra and everyone who came to support what we love. Return to the Bubble Kingdom Recap 08.04.2012

Return to the Bubble Kingdom proved to be one of the better parties of the summer with a killer lineup and over-the-top production.  Set in the Bubble Factory in Brooklyn, this warehouse party was full of surprises.  With a castle backdrop on the main stage, names such as Conspirator, ill.Gates, and Two Fresh proceeded to tear it up while Barney Iller, Heyoka, Dirty Finger and Joro Boro threw down in the basement.  Regardless of the 100 degree sauna-like temperatures, a VIP pool area and $2 waters kept the crowd cool.  Thank You UnicornMeat NYC for another wonderful production and we look forward to the next one. Enjoy in HD.

MAD DECENT Block Party NYC 2012 Recap

6 Aug

MAD DECENT brought its summer block party to NYC once again this year only to promote a big flop.  I entered the venue earlier than expected due to the fact that the RSVP-only situation was a total sham.  My guess is that they were trying to limit attendees.  Once inside what seemed to be a promising day soon turned sour.  With performers like this guy playing at half volume and running out of $3 waters early, there was no coming back.  When confronted about the volume, the sound guy simply said, “Noise complaint, sorry man.”  As if this wasn’t enough a severe storm ended the party before headliner Major Lazer even plugged in.  To top the night off Diplo (Major Lazer) invited the attendees from the free all ages event to a $10/21+ after show……Thanks a ton MAD DECENT.

Starscape proved to be one of the better festivals of the summer with a wide variety of music in its lineup as well as scenic location right on the Curtis Bay.  With 4 stages and a Conspirator sunrise set, this one is a shoe in for the future.  We look forward to seeing the new venue in the upcoming year.  Enjoy in HD.

Camo & Krooked, Figure @ Webster Hall 6.01.12

21 Jun

Had the pleasure of catching Camo & Krooked and DJ Figure at Webster Hall.  Both of these sets brought crazy energy and kept the bass bumpin’ long into the night.  As if this wasn’t enough, they even brought along MC Diggadee to keep the hype where is should be.  Enjoy.
